Dating Chats - How to Spark Chemistry

By Aelicia Anderson

When you stumble upon the perfect dating profile, the one with a hot body and witty quotes, it can be difficult to initiate a chat in a fully charismatic fashion.

Even online, it can be hard to engage others in meaningful conversation. When you discover a dating profile that catches your eye, how do you probe deeper and really get to know someone? There are several elements of chat room dating that can significantly increase your success and take your relationships to the next level.

Sincerity

There will be many times when you just cannot relate to an interest or topic of discussion. If your potential match want to chat about politics, and you do not even know who is running for the upcoming presidential election, avoid the following mistakes:

Frantically searching the internet for information about the candidates.
Calling a friend to quickly ask for advice on who is running.
Saying that you’re still researching the candidates and wish to remain neutral for now.

Be sincere. Rather than give the impression that you are interested or educated on the matter, it is acceptable to say that you haven’t had much time to research the candidates because you do not follow politics much. It’s better to tell the truth, rather than disappoint your potential match later.

Reciprocity

Even shy people like to chat about themselves. If you engage in a chat with someone who caught your eye, make sure to generate original questions to ask them. The following is probably not going to keep the attention of a potential dating match very long:

A: Do you have pets?
B: No. Do you have pets?
A: No. Do you like to drink wine?
B: No. Do you like to drink wine?

By repeating the same question over, it shows that person B is not extremely creative, lacks ingenuity, and conversation skills. If you were dating a person, and the only questions they asked were repeats of the ones you already came up with, you would soon lose interest.

Consider this approach instead:

A: Do you have pets?
B: Not right now. I like dogs though, and I volunteer at the local humane society. Do you like dogs?
A: I love dogs, I wish I could do something like that! That’s great that you volunteer, how did you get into that?
B: My college roommate majored in zoology, and she invited me along with her for a class assignment once. I kept doing it for years. Would you like me to send you the website so you can see how to volunteer?

Person B has now demonstrated that they are a caring and compassionate person, as volunteerism is an attractive trait. Person B has also initiated a non-threatening way that they might meet person A, should they decide to volunteer at the same humane society.

Be creative. Ask original questions. It will set you apart from others in the chat room.

Genuine interest

A great feature of online dating sites is the fantastic pictures. Often times, you might find someone incredibly attractive, just based upon their physical looks. While this is normal, it might not be best to strike up a chat conversation by saying “I think you’re hot!”

Try looking at other aspects of their personal interests and approach them from a less direct route. Maybe the person was riding a horse in the pictures. Ask them in the chat if they have horses, or how they learned to ride. This indicates that the picture caught your interest, but shows that you are genuinely interested in them as a person, not just a pretty face or hot body.

Using the power of dating chats is a great way to break the ice with the person behind that hot profile. In fact, it is easier than being face-to-face with the complete stranger, at a total loss for words. When you are genuine and create interesting things to say, then you can certainly capture the attention of that hot person in the dating profile.
