Online Dating Advice for Men - Writing a Killer Profile

by Chris Benjamin

Meeting women online is a great way to practice a few techniques that will get you far in the long run. Online dating has the advantage of putting you in control of the situation, and avoiding the awkwardness of real-life rejection. But how do you get her to notice you? Your online profile is the key to success.

Your profile is your chance to make a first impression with potential dates online, so you need to take care to do it right. If you blow it, you will find yourself asking why you aren’t getting any responses. Writing a profile is actually an art form, and it is actually pretty simple when you get down to it.

The first thing you need to know is what to avoid. These no-no’s will guarantee failure. Talking about what a “nice guy” you are is the biggest mistake you can make in your profile. Making long laundry lists about yourself is boring, predictable, and completely unsuccessful. Last, but certainly not least- posting a picture of yourself leaning up against your car, with your cat, or at your cubicle? Not allowed! take these three tips as ground rules, and move on from there.

So, now that you know how to do it wrong, you must be wondering how to do it right. It’s simple. The first rule of thumb is to make yourself look confident, not desperate. You should appear masculine, funny, and date-worthy.

In his book, “Double Your Dating,” David Deangelo refers to a type of humor he calls “cocky-funny”. This technique works online and in real life. Try it and see. You need to make a girl feel like you are something special by keeping her on her toes a bit. Maybe you say, “Hot stud seeking supermodel to feed me peeled grapes.” Knock them off balance by saying something unexpected and humorous.

Rule number two: don’t ramble on and on. Leave them wanting more, not less. Make them guess a little bit, instead of laying it all out there. Women love a little mystery, and if you make them wonder instead of telling them straight away, it will drive them crazy.

And finally, get her attention with a knockout photo. Your photo might reflect your interests, highlight your best features, or just demonstrate a talent, but it needs to fulfill a few criteria. It should be fairly accurate and well-lit. You want her to see the real you, in your best form.

So, as a quick review for your profile: be “cocky and funny”, be mysterious, and use an image that generates interest. By sticking to these very simple guidelines, you will have more success with online dating than you ever thought possible.
