Today’s world looks like a bad one for relationships. It seems like everywhere you look, couples that were once so close and happy are fragmenting and going their separate ways. Every couple has their own reasons for breaking up, but there are 6 in particular that usually have something to do with it, and you can help to keep your relationship from going the way of theirs by taking these 6 problems into consideration.

1) Cheating. It’s, in my opinion, the worst possible thing somebody in a relationship can do. It doesn’t just break your partner’s heart, it breaks the trust they had in you as well…and even if you can mend your partner’s heart and save your relationship, chances are you’ll never have that trust again. Do everybody a favor and keep your pants on…don’t cheat, one night of fun could mean two lifetimes of heartache.

2) I know it sounds a little corny, but everybody has feelings and emotions, and when they’re not cared for properly it can really make that person feel unappreciated and like his/her partner doesn’t care. Even if the person knows in his/her mind that’s not true, it can still feel that way…and that can lead to some serious relationship problems. Don’t let your lover feel that way, always make sure that he/she feels as loved as he/she is.

3) Fights happen in all relationships, it’s almost natural, but when tempers really soar and people just can’t cool off and take things with a level head it can really cause dissension. Nobody likes to be with a person who’s always flying off the handle, and can’t be reasoned with. Conflicts are going to happen, but how well they’re dealt with separates the people who stay together from the couples that fragment and scatter.

4) Movies have made it seem like it’s only ever girls who get too controlling, and in fact film has made it even seem funny, but the truth is that both guys and girls can become overly demanding and controlling of their partners…and it’s no laughing matter, as anyone who’s been in that kind of relationship can tell you. If you don’t have trust, you don’t have anything…and if you keep hounding your partner about what goes on every minute of every day, you won’t have him or her either.

5) Allowing a relationship to get boring and stale is perhaps one of the most tragic ways that one can end, as it’s pretty much just a case of so little going on that a person doesn’t really care anymore. Lack of spontanaeity and “spice” is a relationship’s enemy, although you don’t have to freak out if you aren’t doing something new every hour. Spend time together, and do things that are fun for both of you! It’s crazy to simply let a relationship “reach its expiration date.”

6) There’s not a person in the world who doesn’t have one single annoying habit, and for the most part that’s not a problem…but when something you do really grates on your partner’s nerves, try not to do it so much or if possible not at all. Irritating quirks like biting your fingernails or drumming on the table aren’t usually showstoppers, but things that really irritate your partner cause unnecessary tension that could make other little everyday problems stack up and amount to a real situation. Try to consider your partner’s feelings, and work on your bad habits.

This list is by no means the end-all definition of everything that can hurt a relationship, but it covers the biggest offenders and can get you thinking in the right fashion to figure out whatever may be hurting YOUR relationship.
